The publication
A small desk for a large road network.
tolbg writes in English about the roads people actually drive in Bulgaria: motorways, the national roads between them, and the rules that change with the vehicle.
The site is informational. A page can help you tell Trakia from Hemus, a vignette from a toll, or a Schengen land border from the crossing at Kapitan Andreevo. It cannot put a vignette on your plate, clear a lorry at a border, insure a motorcycle or speak for a ministry.
What the pages are for
Readers tend to arrive with a corridor in mind. Sofia to Burgas. Sofia to Thessaloniki. A truck from Serbia toward Türkiye. A motorcycle over the Balkan range in November. The library is arranged around those jobs.
Each guide is meant to stand on its own. You should be able to read the vignette page without the freight page, and the winter page without the motorway page. Cross-links are there when a second page saves a wrong assumption.
What we do not do
- We do not sell vignettes, route passes, toll units, insurance, ferries, hotels or legal representation.
- We do not take bookings, cards or payments of any kind.
- We are not the Road Infrastructure Agency, the National Toll Administration, the Ministry of Interior or a border authority.
- We do not publish star ratings, reader reviews, awards or named experts. The author of a page is the publication.
How a page gets updated
Rules move. Bulgaria joined the euro on 1 January 2026, so older notices still show leva beside euros. Motorway openings are announced in pieces. A vignette product can be added by decree, as the one-day vignette was on 3 February 2026.
When we revise a guide we change the date on the page. That date means the text was read against public sources, not that a member of the desk drove the route that week. If you spot a stale sentence, write to [email protected] with the page address and the source you are looking at. The editorial policy describes that habit in more detail.

Bulgarian road photographs are used under the licence named with each picture. We resized and compressed them to WebP and AVIF. A few illustrations come from Pexels and are labelled as illustrations, because they are not records of a Bulgarian location.
